Summary

Description
English: Graph of the current-voltage (IV) characteristic of a negative impedance converter circuit. Within the linear operation range -VS/2 < V < VS/2 the device has both negative static resistance (red) and negative differential resistance and so acts like a "linear negative resistor" of value V/I = -R. The DC current flow through the port is in the direction of increasing potential, so the device produces power which is consumed in the external circuit. However applying voltage of either polarity greater than the op amp power supply voltages VS will cause the op amp to saturate and the IV curve to turn and enter the 1st and 3rd quadrants, so the static resistance becomes positive and the device consumes power.
