Dielectric breakdown model

From KYNNpedia

Dielectric breakdown model (DBM) is a macroscopic mathematical model combining the diffusion-limited aggregation model with electric field. It was developed by Niemeyer, Pietronero, and Weismann in 1984.<ref>Niemeyer, L.; Pietronero, L.; Wiesmann, H. J. (1984-03-19). "Fractal Dimension of Dielectric Breakdown". Physical Review Letters. American Physical Society (APS). 52 (12): 1033–1036. Bibcode:1984PhRvL..52.1033N. doi:10.1103/physrevlett.52.1033. ISSN 0031-9007.</ref> It describes the patterns of dielectric breakdown of solids, liquids, and even gases, explaining the formation of the branching, self-similar Lichtenberg figures.
