English: A 2 horsepower vertical gasoline or kerosine engine belted to a 900 watt compound-wound 32 volt dynamo (DC generator), powering a maximum of 42 20-watt or 50 15-watt 32-volt tungsten lamps.
The storage battery has 16 cells supplying up to 4.5 amps of power for 7.5 hours at 32 volts. This can supply 7 20-watt bulbs or 9 15-watt bulbs for 7.5 hours.
The switchboard is arranged so as to give 24 hours a day continuous service. It is customary to run the engine for most of the lighting period and just use the batteries late at night.
